About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter on Saturday, Mallorca edged out Athletic Bilbao with a 3-2 victory, thanks to a hat-trick from Vedat Muriqi (GAP -0.4%). The match, held at Mallorca's home ground, was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing attacking intent from the outset. The game started with a bang as Muriqi opened the scoring for Mallorca in the 5th minute. However, Athletic Bilbao quickly responded with Unai Gómez (GAP -1.7%) equalizing in the 8th minute. The first half continued to be a tightly contested affair, with Muriqi restoring Mallorca's lead in the 42nd minute, only for Nico Williams (GAP +1.6%) to level the score again just before halftime. The second half saw Mallorca take control, with Muriqi completing his hat-trick in the 69th minute, giving the home side a crucial lead. The match took a decisive turn when Athletic Bilbao's Gorka Guruzeta (GAP -0.8%) received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card in the 70th minute, leaving Bilbao with ten men. Shortly after, Unai Gómez was also sent off, reducing Bilbao to nine players and severely hampering their ability to mount a comeback. Mallorca's lineup saw no changes from their previous match, maintaining consistency in their selection. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, made several changes, bringing in players like Iñaki Williams and Oihan Sancet from the bench. However, the reasons for these changes were not specified in the available data. This victory is significant for Mallorca, as it boosts their position in the league standings and adds momentum to their campaign. For Athletic Bilbao, the defeat and the disciplinary issues could be a setback, potentially affecting their squad depth and morale in upcoming fixtures. Overall, the match was a testament to Mallorca's resilience and Muriqi's clinical finishing, which ultimately made the difference in a closely fought contest.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
