About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Valencia secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe in their La Liga clash on Sunday, 18 January 2026. The match was tightly contested, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock until late in the game. Jose Luis Gaya (GAP +0.6%) emerged as the hero for Valencia, scoring the decisive goal in the 84th minute. This result was somewhat expected given Valencia's recent form, although Getafe put up a resilient fight. The game was characterized by a lack of clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm for the majority of the match. Valencia's breakthrough came when Gaya capitalized on a rare defensive lapse from Getafe, slotting home to give his side the lead. The match took a dramatic turn in the final minutes when Hugo Duro received a red card, leaving Valencia to defend their slender lead with ten men. In terms of tactical adjustments, Valencia's head coach made several changes during the match, bringing on Diego López, Javi Guerra, Umar Sadiq, Rubo Iranzo, and Baptiste Santamaria. These substitutions were likely aimed at injecting fresh energy into the team as they sought to maintain their advantage. Getafe also made changes, introducing Coba da Costa and Juanmi, but these were not enough to alter the outcome. Valencia's lineup featured a few notable performances, with Dimitri Foulquier (GAP +0.3%) and César Tárrega Requeni (GAP +1.3%) contributing significantly to their defensive solidity. Meanwhile, Getafe's Mauro Arambarri (GAP +1.1%) was a standout performer in midfield, trying to orchestrate play and break down Valencia's defense. This victory helps Valencia maintain their position in the upper half of the La Liga table, building momentum as they continue their campaign. For Getafe, the defeat means they remain in a precarious position, needing to find form quickly to avoid slipping further down the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
