About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at Turf Moor, Manchester City edged past Burnley with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to an early goal from Erling Haaland (GAP +5.9%). This result was largely anticipated given Manchester City's superior form and squad depth, although Burnley put up a resilient fight. The decisive moment came early in the match when Haaland found the back of the net in the 5th minute, capitalizing on a well-executed team move. Despite Burnley's efforts to respond, they struggled to break down a disciplined City defense marshaled by Gianluigi Donnarumma (GAP +5.5%), who ensured a clean sheet for the visitors. Burnley made three changes to their starting lineup, bringing in Josh Laurent, Loum Tchaouna, and Bashir Humphreys, while Florentino Luís, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Marcus Edwards were left out. These changes were part of a tactical reshuffle by the Burnley manager, possibly to counter Manchester City's attacking prowess. On the other hand, Manchester City made a single change, with Rayan Aït-Nouri coming in for the injured Rodri. In terms of individual performances, Nico O'Reilly (GAP +7.3%) stood out for Manchester City, providing creativity and energy in midfield. Meanwhile, Jérémy Doku (GAP +5.4%) also impressed with his dynamic play on the wings, constantly troubling the Burnley defense. This victory consolidates Manchester City's position at the top of the Premier League table, maintaining their momentum as they push for the title. Burnley, despite the loss, can take positives from their defensive organization and will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures to secure their mid-table status. Post-match reactions highlighted Manchester City's ability to grind out results even when not at their free-flowing best, a testament to their championship credentials. Burnley, while disappointed, were praised for their tenacity and will aim to convert such performances into points in future matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
