About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Everton secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burnley in their Premier League clash at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The result was largely expected given Everton's superior form and league position compared to Burnley, who have been struggling in recent weeks. The match saw Everton take control early on, with James Tarkowski (GAP +2.1%) opening the scoring in the 32nd minute. Tarkowski's goal set the tone for the home side, who dominated possession and created several chances. Burnley, despite making four changes to their lineup, including the introduction of Kyle Walker (GAP -1.4%) and Florentino Luís (GAP -3.8%), struggled to find their rhythm. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (GAP +2.2%) doubled Everton's lead in the 60th minute, effectively sealing the win. His performance was a standout, contributing significantly to Everton's midfield dominance. The away side's attempts to claw back into the game were thwarted by a solid defensive display from Everton, with Jordan Pickford (GAP +2.3%) providing assurance between the posts. Burnley's head coach opted for a tactical reshuffle, bringing in Walker, Luís, Lesley Ugochukwu (GAP -4.9%), and Lyle Foster (GAP -2.7%) while leaving out James Ward-Prowse, Josh Laurent, Jacob Bruun Larsen, and Zian Flemming. However, these changes did not yield the desired impact, as Burnley remained toothless in attack. For Everton, the win consolidates their position in the upper half of the table, maintaining their push for European qualification. Burnley, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly as they continue to hover near the relegation zone, with their recent form showing just one win in their last five matches. Post-match reactions highlighted Everton's solid team performance, with particular praise for Dewsbury-Hall and Tarkowski. The result leaves Everton in a strong position to challenge for a top-six finish, while Burnley faces an uphill battle to avoid the drop.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
