About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Chelsea and Leeds United played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in their Premier League clash on Tuesday. The result was somewhat unexpected given Chelsea's recent form and home advantage, but Leeds showed resilience to earn a valuable point. The match began with Chelsea taking the lead in the 24th minute through João Pedro (GAP +3.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Leeds. Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when Cole Palmer (GAP +4.4%) found the back of the net, seemingly putting the home side in control. However, Leeds United responded with determination. Lukas Nmecha, who was a doubt before the match due to a hamstring injury, pulled one back for Leeds in the 67th minute. Just six minutes later, substitute Noah Okafor leveled the score, completing a remarkable comeback for the visitors. Chelsea's lineup saw two changes from their previous match, with Estêvão and Josh Acheampong coming in for Angel Gomes and Pedro Neto. Leeds United made three changes, bringing in Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Lukas Nmecha, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor, and Pascal Struijk were left out. The reasons for these changes were not specified in the post-match reports. In terms of individual performances, Marc Cucurella (GAP +5.7%) and Malo Gusto (GAP +5.1%) were standout players for Chelsea, contributing significantly to both defense and attack. For Leeds, Karl Darlow (GAP +0.6%) made several crucial saves to keep his team in the game. This draw leaves Chelsea in a challenging position as they aim to secure a European spot, while Leeds will be buoyed by their ability to fight back and earn a point away from home. Both teams will need to build on this performance as they look to improve their standings in the league table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
