About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace played out a 1-1 draw. The match, part of Gameweek 24, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was marked by early goals and a significant red card incident. The match began with Nottingham Forest taking an early lead through Morgan Gibbs-White, who found the back of the net in the 5th minute. This early strike set the tone for a competitive first half. However, the momentum shifted just before halftime when Ismaïla Sarr equalized for Crystal Palace in the 45th minute. The situation worsened for Nottingham Forest as Neco Williams received a red card in the same minute, leaving the home side to play the entire second half with ten men. Tactically, both teams made no changes to their starting lineups compared to their previous matches, indicating a desire to maintain consistency. Nottingham Forest's manager opted to bring on substitutes such as Angus Gunn, Morato, Ryan Yates, and Dan Ndoye during the match, while Crystal Palace introduced Christantus Uche. The absence of key players due to injuries and international duties, such as Chris Wood and Ibrahim Sangaré for Nottingham Forest, and Eddie Nketiah and Daichi Kamada for Crystal Palace, was notable. Despite being a man down, Nottingham Forest managed to hold on for a point, showcasing resilience and defensive organization. The draw leaves Nottingham Forest in a challenging position as they continue to seek consistency in their performances. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, will be slightly disappointed not to capitalize on their numerical advantage, but the point keeps them steady in the mid-table. Post-match reactions highlighted the significance of the red card as a turning point, with both managers acknowledging the impact it had on the game's dynamics. The result reflects the competitive nature of the Premier League, where every point is hard-earned. Looking ahead, Nottingham Forest will need to address their disciplinary issues and find ways to convert draws into wins to climb the table. Crystal Palace will aim to build on this result and push for a higher league position as the season progresses.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
