About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brighton and Hove Albion and Everton played out a 1-1 draw at the American Express Stadium in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The result was a fair reflection of a tightly contested match, with both teams having their moments but ultimately unable to secure all three points. Pre-match expectations had this as a closely matched encounter, and the outcome aligned with those predictions. The game saw its first breakthrough in the 73rd minute when Pascal Gross (GAP +2.0%) put Brighton ahead. His goal was a result of sustained pressure from the home side, who had been probing Everton's defense throughout the second half. However, Everton responded late in the game, with substitute Beto scoring in the 90th minute to salvage a point for the visitors. Brighton made two changes to their lineup from the previous match, with Georginio Rutter and Maxim Cuyper coming in for Olivier Boscagli and Diego Gómez. The reasons for these changes were not explicitly stated in post-match reports, but it appeared to be a tactical decision by the Brighton manager to freshen up the squad. Everton, on the other hand, made four changes, bringing in Michael Keane, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Harrison Armstrong. These changes were partly due to injuries and suspensions, as confirmed by the absence of Dwight McNeil and Vitaliy Mykolenko. In terms of individual performances, Kaoru Mitoma (GAP +2.5%) was a constant threat for Brighton, using his pace and dribbling skills to unsettle the Everton defense. For Everton, Jordan Pickford (GAP +1.6%) made several crucial saves to keep his team in the game, particularly in the first half when Brighton were on the front foot. This draw leaves both teams in mid-table positions, with Brighton looking to build on their recent form, having now gone unbeaten in their last three matches. Everton, meanwhile, will be pleased to have avoided defeat away from home, but they will need to start converting draws into wins if they are to climb higher in the standings. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of both teams, with the Brighton manager praising his side's effort and Everton's head coach acknowledging the importance of Beto's late equalizer. Both teams will now look ahead to their next fixtures, aiming to capitalize on the positives from this encounter.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
