Game Review
Napoli secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Cagliari in their Serie A clash on Friday, 20 March 2026. The match was decided early on, with Scott McTominay (GAP +5.4%) scoring the only goal in the 2nd minute. This result was somewhat expected given Napoli's stronger squad and higher league position, although Cagliari put up a resilient fight throughout the match. The early goal by McTominay set the tone for Napoli, who managed to control the game with a disciplined midfield performance. Kevin De Bruyne (GAP +3.3%) and Stanislav Lobotka (GAP +3.2%) were instrumental in maintaining possession and dictating the pace. Despite Cagliari's efforts to break through, they struggled to create significant chances against a well-organized Napoli defense. Tactically, Napoli's manager made no changes to the starting lineup compared to their previous match, indicating confidence in his current squad setup. In contrast, Cagliari's lineup also remained unchanged, suggesting a focus on stability and cohesion. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlights some key performances, with Mathías Olivera (GAP +3.9%) and Matteo Politano (GAP +2.9%) contributing effectively to Napoli's defensive solidity and attacking transitions. Cagliari's Yerry Mina (GAP -0.2%) and Sebastiano Esposito (GAP -0.4%) had a challenging outing, struggling to make a significant impact against Napoli's structured play. Post-match reactions emphasized Napoli's ability to grind out results, a trait that could prove crucial as they aim to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table. Cagliari, on the other hand, will need to regroup and find ways to convert their defensive resilience into offensive opportunities. This victory helps Napoli solidify their standing in the league, keeping them in contention for a top-four finish. For Cagliari, the defeat means they must continue to fight for points to avoid slipping further down the table as the season progresses.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
