About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Fiorentina secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Pisa in their Serie A clash on Monday, 23 February 2026. The match was decided early on by Moise Kean (GAP +1.3%), who found the back of the net in the 13th minute. This result was largely expected, given Fiorentina's stronger position in the league compared to Pisa. The game started with Fiorentina asserting their dominance, and it didn't take long for them to capitalize on their early pressure. Moise Kean's goal came as a result of a well-executed team move, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Despite Pisa's efforts to respond, they struggled to break down Fiorentina's defense, which was marshaled effectively by Luca Ranieri (GAP +2.1%). Tactically, Fiorentina's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his current squad. On the other hand, Pisa's head coach opted for a few adjustments, bringing in players like Juan Cuadrado and Henrik Wendel Meister from the bench to inject fresh energy into the team. However, these changes were not enough to alter the course of the game. David de Gea (GAP -0.5%) was solid between the posts for Fiorentina, ensuring that Pisa's attempts were kept at bay. The defensive unit, including Marin Pongračić (GAP +1.3%) and Fabiano Parisi (GAP +1.8%), played a crucial role in maintaining the clean sheet. This victory helps Fiorentina maintain their momentum in Serie A, as they continue to push for a higher league position. For Pisa, the defeat highlights the challenges they face in climbing the table, as they remain in the lower half of the standings. The result underscores the importance of consistency and the need for Pisa to find a way to convert their efforts into points in future matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
