About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Pisa and Atalanta shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw on Friday, 16 January 2026. The match, played at Pisa's home ground, saw both teams score late goals, reflecting a balanced affair that perhaps met pre-match expectations. The game remained goalless until the 83rd minute when Atalanta's Nikola Krstović, who came on as a substitute, found the back of the net. Krstović's introduction was part of a tactical shift by the Atalanta head coach, who made several changes to inject fresh energy into the side. However, Pisa responded swiftly, with Rafiu Adekunle Durosinmi, another substitute, equalizing just four minutes later in the 87th minute. From a tactical perspective, Atalanta's Marten de Roon (GAP +5.4%) was instrumental in controlling the midfield, while Marco Carnesecchi (GAP +5.3%) provided a solid presence in goal. Pisa's Arturo Calabresi (GAP +0.1%) and Simone Scuffet (GAP -1.1%) were notable in defense, with Scuffet making crucial saves to keep his team in the game. Both teams made several lineup changes compared to their previous fixtures. Pisa's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Rosen Bozhinov, Mehdi Léris, and Rafiu Adekunle Durosinmi as substitutes, while Atalanta's head coach introduced Éderson, Giacomo Raspadori, Davide Zappacosta, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Nikola Krstović during the match. These changes highlighted the strategic depth both teams possess. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the Serie A standings, with Pisa continuing to show resilience against higher-ranked opponents. For Atalanta, the draw might be seen as a missed opportunity to climb higher in the table, but the late equalizer from Pisa underscores the competitive nature of the league. Post-match reactions emphasized the importance of the substitutes, with both managers likely pleased with their impact. The draw maintains Atalanta's unbeaten run, while Pisa will take confidence from their ability to compete against strong opposition.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
