About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Napoli edged past Sassuolo with a narrow 1-0 victory at home on Saturday, 17 January 2026. The match was decided early on by a goal from Stanislav Lobotka (GAP +4.5%) in the 7th minute, which proved to be the only difference between the two sides. This result was somewhat expected given Napoli's strong form leading into the match, having secured three wins in their last five league outings. The game started with Napoli asserting their dominance, and it didn't take long for them to capitalize on their early pressure. Lobotka's goal came from a well-executed team move, showcasing Napoli's attacking prowess. Despite several attempts to extend their lead, Napoli couldn't find the back of the net again, largely due to Sassuolo's resilient defense. Sassuolo, on the other hand, struggled to create clear-cut chances, with their key player Andrea Pinamonti (GAP +0.6%) unable to make a significant impact against a well-organized Napoli defense led by Amir Rrahmani (GAP +6.4%). The visitors did make several substitutions in an attempt to change the game's dynamics, bringing on Walid Cheddira, Woyo Coulibaly, Edoardo Iannoni, Laurs Østerby Skjellerup, and Luca Moro, but these changes did not yield the desired effect. Napoli's lineup saw the introduction of Matteo Politano, Alessandro Buongiorno, Noa Lang, and Pasquale Mazzocchi from the bench, as the home team manager opted for fresh legs to maintain their slender lead. The tactical adjustments ensured Napoli remained compact and difficult to break down. This victory solidifies Napoli's position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table, as they continue to chase a top-four finish. For Sassuolo, the defeat means they remain in the mid-table, needing to find consistency to climb higher. The match highlighted Napoli's defensive solidity and ability to grind out results, a trait that could prove crucial in the latter stages of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
