About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events in Serie A, Cagliari managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Juventus on Saturday, 17 January 2026. The match, held as part of Gameweek 21, saw Cagliari defy expectations against a traditionally stronger Juventus side. The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Luca Mazzitelli (GAP -1.5%) found the back of the net, securing all three points for the home team. The game was largely balanced, with both teams having their share of possession and chances. However, it was Cagliari who capitalized on their opportunity, thanks to Mazzitelli's well-timed strike. Juventus, despite having a lineup featuring key players like Mattia Perin (GAP +3.2%) and Bremer (GAP +3.2%), struggled to break down a resilient Cagliari defense. Tactically, Cagliari's approach was disciplined, focusing on a solid defensive setup that frustrated Juventus' attacking efforts. Juventus made several substitutions in an attempt to change the game's dynamics, bringing on Edon Zhegrova, Khéphren Thuram, Vasilije Adžić, Francisco Conceição, and Loïs Openda. However, these changes did not yield the desired effect, as Cagliari held firm. In terms of lineup changes, Juventus made five substitutions during the match, but there was no specific information available regarding changes from their previous lineup. Cagliari also utilized their bench, bringing on Riyad Idrissi and Gennaro Borrelli to maintain their lead. The result is a significant boost for Cagliari, who have been striving to climb the Serie A table. For Juventus, this defeat is a setback in their pursuit of the top positions, highlighting the need for tactical adjustments and perhaps a reassessment of their current form. Overall, this match serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of football, where even the underdogs can triumph with determination and strategic execution.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
