About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Atlético Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Real Oviedo in their La Liga clash on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The match, held at Real Oviedo's home ground, saw Atlético Madrid maintain their position near the top of the table, while Real Oviedo struggled to capitalize on their home advantage. The game was tightly contested, with both teams failing to find the back of the net for most of the match. The decisive moment came late in the game, with Atlético Madrid managing to edge ahead. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not short on intensity, as both teams battled hard in midfield. Jan Oblak (GAP +5.9%) was instrumental for Atlético Madrid, providing a solid last line of defense and ensuring his team kept a clean sheet. His performance was complemented by José María Giménez (GAP +3.3%) and Robin Le Normand (GAP +4.3%), who were pivotal in maintaining defensive stability. Real Oviedo's lineup saw several changes, with Lucas Ahijado, Thiago Fernández, Santiago Colombatto, Luka Ilić, and Santi Cazorla coming off the bench. Atlético Madrid's head coach made strategic substitutions, introducing Julián Álvarez, Giuliano Simeone, Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente, and Koke to bolster their attack and midfield. Pre-match expectations favored Atlético Madrid, given their superior league position and recent form. This result was in line with those expectations, as Atlético Madrid continued their pursuit of the league leaders. For Real Oviedo, this defeat leaves them in a precarious position, needing to gather points quickly to avoid slipping further down the table. Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid's victory keeps them in contention for the top spots, as they look to build on this momentum in the coming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
