About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The match, held at Rayo's home ground, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was largely expected to be evenly matched, given their similar standings in the league. The game began with Rayo Vallecano taking the lead in the 35th minute through Jorge de Frutos (GAP +1.8%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Athletic Bilbao. However, the visitors responded swiftly after the break, with Iñaki Williams (GAP +3.4%) leveling the score in the 47th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Athletic Bilbao's lineup featured Aymeric Laporte (GAP -0.7%) and Yuri Berchiche (GAP +3.1%) in defense, both of whom were instrumental in keeping Rayo's attack at bay after the equalizer. Unai Simón (GAP +1.8%) also played a crucial role in goal, making several key saves to deny Rayo a second goal. Rayo Vallecano's manager made five substitutions, bringing in Fran Pérez, Unai Lopez, Pedro Díaz, Alemão, and Óscar Valentín to inject fresh energy into the team. Athletic Bilbao's head coach also opted for four changes, introducing Alejandro Rego, Andoni Gorosabel, Álex Berenguer, and Mikel Vesga, aiming to turn the tide in their favor. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with Rayo Vallecano looking to build on this performance in their next fixtures. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, will be satisfied with the point away from home, as they continue to push for a higher finish in La Liga. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive nature of the game, with both managers acknowledging the fair result. The draw reflects the balanced nature of the contest, with neither side able to dominate proceedings decisively.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
