About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter, Real Madrid edged past Rayo Vallecano with a 2-1 victory at home. The match was a testament to Real Madrid's resilience and attacking prowess, as they managed to secure the win in the dying moments of the game. The game started with Real Madrid asserting their dominance early on. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring in the 15th minute, setting the tone for the home side. However, Rayo Vallecano, known for their spirited performances, responded after the break with Jorge de Frutos finding the net in the 49th minute, leveling the score and injecting tension into the match. The turning point came late in the game when Kylian Mbappé, a constant threat throughout the match, scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute, sealing the victory for Real Madrid. This goal not only highlighted Mbappé's clinical finishing but also underscored Real Madrid's ability to perform under pressure. Rayo Vallecano's task was made more difficult following a red card for Pathé Ciss in the 80th minute, which left them a man down during the crucial final stages of the match. Despite their valiant effort, the numerical disadvantage proved too much to overcome. Tactically, Real Madrid's manager made several substitutions, bringing on Brahim, Rodrygo, David Alaba, Gonzalo García, and Daniel Ceballos to inject fresh energy into the squad. These changes were pivotal in maintaining the team's momentum and securing the win. For Rayo Vallecano, the introduction of Alfonso Espino, Óscar Valentín, Pedro Díaz, Luiz Felipe, and Carlos Martín was an attempt to bolster their defense and midfield, but the red card severely hampered their strategy. This victory keeps Real Madrid in a strong position in the La Liga standings, as they continue to challenge for the top spots. Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano will need to regroup and address their disciplinary issues to improve their league position. Overall, the match was a showcase of Real Madrid's depth and determination, while Rayo Vallecano will take away lessons on maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
