About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Villarreal edged past Elche with a 2-1 victory at home on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The match saw Villarreal take control early on, with goals from Tajon Buchanan and Santiago Mouriño giving them a comfortable lead before halftime. Buchanan opened the scoring in the 31st minute, showcasing his attacking prowess, while Mouriño doubled the advantage just ten minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Elche. Elche, however, showed resilience and managed to pull one back in the 83rd minute through André Silva, who came off the bench to make an impact. Despite their late push, Elche couldn't find the equalizer, leaving Villarreal to secure all three points. Both teams made significant changes to their lineups. Villarreal's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Alfon, Thomas Partey, Daniel Parejo, Gerard Moreno, and Renato Veiga as substitutes to maintain the team's momentum. Elche's head coach also made strategic substitutions, introducing André Silva, Martim Carvalho Neto, Gonzalo Villar, Federico Redondo, and Josan to try and turn the tide. The result was somewhat expected given Villarreal's strong home form and Elche's struggles on the road this season. Villarreal's victory consolidates their position in the upper half of the table, boosting their chances of securing a European spot. Meanwhile, Elche remains in the lower half, needing to improve their away performances to climb the standings. Post-match reactions highlighted Villarreal's effective use of their attacking players, with Buchanan and Mouriño receiving praise for their contributions. The win provides Villarreal with a confidence boost as they look to build on this performance in the coming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
