About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Barcelona edged past Athletic Bilbao with a narrow 1-0 victory at San Mamés on Saturday. The match was largely anticipated to be a close affair, given both teams' recent form and standings in the league. Barcelona, coming into the game with a series of strong performances, managed to secure the win thanks to a decisive goal by Lamine Yamal (GAP +9.0%) in the 68th minute. The game began with both sides showing tactical discipline, with Athletic Bilbao's defense, led by Aymeric Laporte (GAP -1.0%), holding firm against Barcelona's attacking threats. However, it was Barcelona who eventually broke the deadlock. Lamine Yamal's strike, a well-timed effort, proved to be the difference as Athletic Bilbao struggled to find an equalizer despite the efforts of Iñaki Williams (GAP +2.8%) and Álex Berenguer (GAP +0.7%). Barcelona's lineup saw several changes, with key players like Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Pedri coming off the bench. These substitutions injected fresh energy into the team, which was crucial in maintaining their lead. On the other hand, Athletic Bilbao made tactical adjustments by introducing Gorka Guruzeta, Robert Navarro, and Mikel Vesga, but these changes were unable to alter the outcome. Defensively, Eric García (GAP +8.9%) and Joan García (GAP +4.4%) were instrumental in keeping a clean sheet for Barcelona, showcasing their resilience against Bilbao's attacking attempts. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) data highlights the significant contributions of these players, particularly Lamine Yamal, whose performance was pivotal in securing the win. This victory solidifies Barcelona's position in the upper echelons of the La Liga table, continuing their pursuit of the title. For Athletic Bilbao, the defeat is a setback, but their performance showed promise, and they remain competitive in the league. Post-match reactions from the Barcelona camp praised the team's perseverance and tactical execution, while Athletic Bilbao's focus will likely be on regrouping and addressing the areas that need improvement as they prepare for their next fixture.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
