About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an engaging La Liga encounter, Elche and Espanyol shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw on Sunday, 1 March 2026. The match, held at Elche's home ground, saw both teams display resilience and tactical acumen, resulting in a fair outcome that reflected the balance of play. Espanyol started brightly, with Kike Garcia (GAP +1.6%) opening the scoring in the 7th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Elche. The visitors maintained their lead until just before halftime when Marc Aguado (GAP -0.6%) equalized for Elche in the 42nd minute, setting the stage for a competitive second half. The second half saw Espanyol regain the lead through Carlos Romero (GAP +1.3%) in the 57th minute. However, Elche's persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match. Rafa Mir (GAP +0.6%) found the back of the net in the 90th minute, ensuring the home side salvaged a point. The match ended on a contentious note with Espanyol's Charles Pickel receiving a red card in the 90th minute, adding drama to an already thrilling encounter. Tactically, both teams made several changes compared to their previous lineups. Elche's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Álvaro Rodríguez, Víctor Chust, Josan, and Adrià Pedrosa during the game. Espanyol's head coach also shuffled his squad, introducing Roberto Fernández, Ramon Terrats, Charles Pickel, Jofre Carreras, and Miguel Rubio as substitutes. These changes reflected a strategic attempt to adapt to the flow of the game and maintain intensity. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with Elche continuing to build on their recent form, having secured crucial points in their last few outings. Espanyol, meanwhile, will view the draw as a missed opportunity to climb higher in the standings, especially after leading twice in the match. Overall, the draw was a fair reflection of the match, with both sides showing moments of quality and resilience. As the season progresses, both Elche and Espanyol will aim to convert such performances into victories to improve their league positions.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
