About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Barcelona delivered a commanding performance in their La Liga clash against Villarreal, securing a 4-1 victory at home. This result was largely anticipated given Barcelona's strong form and Villarreal's struggles this season. The match was highlighted by a sensational hat-trick from Lamine Yamal (GAP +8.6%), who was undoubtedly the standout performer. The game began with Barcelona asserting their dominance early on. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 28th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the match. He doubled Barcelona's lead in the 37th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Villarreal managed to pull one back shortly after halftime through Pape Gueye (GAP +3.8%) in the 49th minute, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Yamal completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute. Robert Lewandowski, who came on as a substitute, added a fourth goal in the 90th minute to seal the victory. Tactically, Barcelona's manager made several changes to the lineup, bringing in Marcus Rashford, Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, Roony Bardghji, and Ronald Araújo during the match. These substitutions added fresh legs and maintained the team's high intensity throughout the game. Villarreal's head coach also made changes, introducing Tajon Buchanan, Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi, Daniel Parejo, Alfon, and Alfonso Pedraza, but these adjustments were unable to turn the tide in their favor. In terms of individual performances, Eric García (GAP +8.3%) and Jules Koundé (GAP +7.6%) were solid at the back for Barcelona, while Dani Olmo (GAP +5.8%) orchestrated play effectively from midfield. For Villarreal, Ayoze Pérez (GAP +2.6%) and Nicolas Pépé (GAP +1.9%) tried to make an impact but were largely contained by Barcelona's defense. This victory solidifies Barcelona's position in the upper echelons of the La Liga table, continuing their pursuit of the league title. Villarreal, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties as they look to improve their standing in the league. The result reflects the current form of both teams, with Barcelona extending their winning streak and Villarreal facing a challenging period ahead.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
