About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga match, Sevilla and Girona played out a 1-1 draw at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. The game, part of the 23rd gameweek, saw both teams share the spoils in a match that was marked by early and late drama. Girona took an unexpected lead just two minutes into the game through Thomas Lemar, who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Sevilla to put the visitors ahead. This early goal set the tone for a match where Girona looked to defend their lead and hit on the counter. Sevilla, however, dominated possession and created several chances but struggled to break down a resolute Girona defense. The home team’s persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match when Kike Salas found the back of the net in the 90th minute, salvaging a point for Sevilla. Both managers made full use of their substitutes, with Sevilla introducing Oso, Djibril Sow, Juanlu, Alexis Sánchez, and Chidera Ejuke to inject fresh energy into the team. Girona responded with changes of their own, bringing on Alejandro Francés, Axel Witsel, Joel Roca, Christian Stuani, and Claudio Echeverri. The result leaves Sevilla in a challenging position as they continue to struggle for consistency in the league. Despite the late equalizer, the draw means Sevilla have now failed to win in their last three matches, putting pressure on the team to find form as they aim to climb the La Liga table. For Girona, the draw is a valuable point on the road, reflecting a solid defensive performance and tactical discipline. They will look to build on this result as they seek to secure a mid-table finish. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of both teams, with Sevilla's late goal being a testament to their fighting spirit. However, the inability to secure all three points at home will be a concern for the Sevilla head coach as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
