About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at Elland Road, Leeds United and Brentford played out a goalless draw. The result was not entirely unexpected given both teams' recent form and the evenly matched nature of their lineups. Leeds, coming into the game with a mixed bag of results, managed to hold their own against a Brentford side that has been resilient this season. The match saw few clear-cut chances, with both defenses standing firm. Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin (GAP +3.1%) was a constant threat, using his physical presence to unsettle the Brentford backline, but ultimately, he could not find the breakthrough. On the other side, Kevin Schade (GAP +3.3%) was instrumental for Brentford, showcasing his ability to drive forward and create opportunities, though none were converted. Leeds United made one change to their starting lineup, with Jayden Bogle coming in for the suspended Gabriel Gudmundsson. Brentford's head coach opted for two changes, bringing in Ethan Pinnock (GAP +1.2%) and Yehor Yarmolyuk, replacing Mikkel Damsgaard and Dango Ouattara. These adjustments were likely tactical, aiming to bolster the team's defensive solidity and midfield creativity. Karl Darlow (GAP -0.1%) in goal for Leeds and Caoimhín Kelleher (GAP +2.5%) for Brentford both had solid performances, ensuring their respective teams kept a clean sheet. The defensive efforts of Joe Rodon (GAP +0.4%) and Pascal Struijk (GAP +1.3%) were also noteworthy, as they effectively neutralized Brentford's attacking threats. Post-match, the Leeds United manager expressed satisfaction with the defensive performance but acknowledged the need for more creativity in the final third. Brentford's head coach highlighted the team's resilience and the importance of securing a point away from home. This draw leaves Leeds United in a precarious position, needing to find consistency to climb the table. Brentford, meanwhile, will be content with the point as they continue to solidify their mid-table standing, looking to push for a higher finish as the season progresses.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
