About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a closely contested Serie A encounter, Napoli edged past Hellas Verona with a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. The result was largely in line with expectations, as Napoli, sitting higher in the league standings, were favorites against a struggling Verona side. The match began with a bang as Rasmus Højlund (GAP -0.1%) put Napoli ahead in just the second minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Verona. This early goal set the tone for Napoli, who controlled much of the first half with their superior possession and tactical discipline. Hellas Verona, however, showed resilience and managed to level the score in the 65th minute through Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro (GAP -3.0%), who found the back of the net with a well-timed strike. This goal injected life into the home side, who began to press forward with more intent. The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when Romelu Lukaku, a substitute for Napoli, scored the winning goal, ensuring all three points for the visitors. Lukaku's impact off the bench was immediate and crucial, demonstrating Napoli's depth in attack. From a tactical standpoint, Napoli's manager made several changes to the lineup, bringing in players like Pasquale Mazzocchi, Billy Gilmour, and Miguel Gutiérrez as substitutes to maintain their attacking momentum. Hellas Verona also made strategic substitutions, including Cheikh Niasse and Tomáš Suslov, in an attempt to bolster their midfield and defense. Key players for Napoli included Alex Meret (GAP +5.4%), whose commanding presence in goal thwarted several Verona attempts, and Matteo Politano (GAP +4.4%), who was instrumental in Napoli's attacking plays. This victory solidifies Napoli's position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table, maintaining their push for European qualification. For Hellas Verona, the defeat leaves them precariously close to the relegation zone, necessitating a turnaround in form to secure their Serie A status. Post-match reactions highlighted Napoli's resilience and tactical flexibility, with praise for their ability to secure a late winner. The result underscores the challenges facing Hellas Verona as they look to improve their league standing in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
