About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Cagliari and Lazio played out a goalless draw on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The match, held as part of Gameweek 26, saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net, despite several opportunities and a significant red card incident. The game was marked by a lack of clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm. Cagliari's Yerry Mina (GAP +0.3%) was a central figure in the match, but his dismissal in the 85th minute for a second yellow card left Cagliari to finish the game with ten men. Despite this disadvantage, Lazio could not capitalize on the numerical superiority. Lazio's Ivan Provedel (GAP +2.3%) was instrumental in maintaining the clean sheet, making crucial saves to deny Cagliari any breakthrough. Meanwhile, Nicolò Rovella (GAP +2.0%) provided a solid midfield presence for Lazio, helping to control the tempo and distribution. Both managers opted for changes during the match. Cagliari introduced Riyad Idrissi and Gabriele Zappa from the bench, while Lazio's substitutions included Tijjani Noslin, Nuno Tavares, Danilo Cataldi, Petar Ratkov, and Matteo Cancellieri. These changes, however, did not significantly alter the course of the game. The result leaves both teams reflecting on missed opportunities. For Cagliari, the draw means they remain in a precarious position in the league, needing to find form to climb the table. Lazio, on the other hand, will see this as a missed chance to gain ground on the teams above them, especially given their numerical advantage late in the game. Post-match reactions highlighted the frustration on both sides, with fans and analysts pointing to the lack of clinical finishing as a key issue. The Cagliari manager will need to address the discipline issues that led to Mina's red card, while Lazio's head coach might focus on converting possession into goals in future fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
